Expressive Mode adds emotion and inflection to the AI's speech, creating a more natural, dynamic voice.
Broccoli's Standard Voice was already far from monotone, booking 80%+ of calls, but its tone remained relatively consistent throughout a conversation.
Agents with expressive mode can sound empathetic, amused, apologetic, or warm depending on the context — closing the gap between "text read aloud" and a real conversation.

But how does the voice become expressive?
Expressive voices sit on top of Broccoli's existing voice technology.
Older generations of voice agents generated audio from text with a single, consistent tone regardless of what was being said. Expressive voices allow the agent to modulate its delivery based on the conversation. For example, the initial response to an angry customer with a broken AC might sound apologetic, while a booking confirmation sounds warm and assuring.
This is achieved with what we call expression tags — cues for the voice agent that help it add the right tone at the right moments.
There are some default expression tags configured. You can add more from over 1,500 options including "sympathetic", "chuckle", and "emphasis".
