Mann hopes everyone enjoyed the Memorial Day weekend and is ready for summer. June is here and it is time to celebrated graduates, dads and National Fruit & Vegetable Month. If you didn't fire up your grills last weekend, get ready. There's nothing like adding fresh grilled vegetables to your summer barbeque, so grab some Mann's Fresh-Cut Veggies and get going!

Sun Safety 101 from the American Cancer Society
With the kick off of summer and warm days upon us, we should all refresh our sun worshipping habits. According to the American Cancer Society, more than 2 million skin cancers are diagnosed each year. That's more than cancers of the prostate, breast, lung, colon, uterus, ovaries, and pancreas combined.

The sun is good for us and is a natural source of vitamin D, which our bodies need everyday. But too many ultraviolet rays penetrating our skin without protection can have the opposite effect.

Use sunscreen with at least 15 SPF, wear a hat, and avoid tanning beds. These are just a few tips from the American Cancer Society.

Steps at Home to Reduce Risks of Ecoli & Salmonella
As consumer's we are all aware of food safety issues when it comes to ecoli and salmonella. This is a serious subject and we need to be aware of preventative actions. Did you know that 75% of salmonella cases have been linked to foods with undercooked eggs? We rely on our food sources to provide us with safe and sanitary food. But the responsibility does not stop there. It needs to go forward into our homes for further safety measures that we can provide for ourselves.

- Meat should be cooked to 160ƒ as should chicken. Rare cooked hamburger is risky if it does not reach this temperature. The juice of the cooked meat should be clear not pink.
- Keep raw meat separate from your ready to eat items in the refrigerator.
- If using raw eggs for ingredients make sure they are cooked through in your recipe.
- Keep two cutting boards in your kitchen; one for meat and one for fruits & vegetables.

American Heart Association Fund Raiser
Mann Packing second generation family members co-chaired the American Heart Association fundraiser at Spanish Bay on May 8th. The events theme was "Go Red for Women" and supports research to prevent women's heart disease.They were able to assist AHA in raising a total of $95,000 for this years event. Thank you to Gina Nucci, Lorri Koster and Dee Dee Reyna. They are three sisters with a cause and a purpose to make a positive change.

The Women & Men Behind Mann!
On May 30th David Morgan will be celebrating 13 years as a Mann employee. David started out in the produce industry at the age of 16, working his way through high school and the University of North Texas at his local Safeway store in Dallas. When David came to Mann in 1997 he had a college degree in Business Administration and Management. He had completed 8 years of employment at French's and had another nine years as a produce broker in Texas, representing up to fifteen product lines.

David was one of the fifteen original independent retail brokers for Mann Packing Company. This experience and his performance led him to be hired by Mann as a regional manager in 1997. David says, "It was a smooth transition into the Mann family business. The Mann employees have always been a nice group of people to work for. I feel very fortunate to be part of a family business that listens to our suggestions and keeps us involved in the daily business developments and strategies. It's what sets us apart from the other companies. The Nucci and Ramsey families have been instrumental in this process and it is part of Mann's success." David smiled when he talked about the first time he saw Broccoli Cole Slaw on the grocery shelf and had no idea what it was.

Answer #1: West Coast distributors are: Raley's; Nob Hill; Save Mart; Safeway & Von's. Texas distributor is Minyard's. Pennsylvania distributor is Weiss. Mid West distributor is Spartan and Piggly Wiggly in Alabama.
Canadian distributors are: Safeway; Walmart; Loblaw's; Sobey's; Metro/AP; Overwaitea and IGA.

Our sales staff is currently working on expanding this distribution, so we will update you as soon and new retailers add sweet potatoes to their product line.

June came so fast this year. Our May newsletter is a few days late due to technical problems. School will be out soon and vacation time is here. While you are on the go this summer, don't forget to pack some fresh veggies in that picnic basket, or the back pack before you head out to the beach or for a hike.
